INTRODUCTION TO MY PORTFOLIO

When I woke up from the coma, I was a prisoner in my own body. I didn’t remember how to pick up a pencil, let alone draw a straight line. My heart shattered when I stared at pictures of pieces I’d created because I feared I could never draw like that again.

Eventually, I painted my first strokes. Those strokes injected hope in all that I do. With this hope, I began my recovery journey, which this portfolio serves to document.

These works highlight my optimism, my challenges, and my strengths as I battled with death. In particular, many pieces contain a spiritual element – Buddhist gods and references that guided me through sleepless nights and painful days.

Through these pieces, I hope to tell a coherent, interesting, and nuanced story. Welcome to my story of recovery and growth.
